Remove the background from handbag photos

Bag buyers look for craftsmanship and condition. eBay's luxury bags guide asks for every angle, the interior, close-ups and every defect, showing only what the buyer will receive, with up to 24 images. Bags from eligible brands listed in eBay's bag categories that sell for $500 or more go through eBay's Authenticity Guarantee, where authenticators check the bag against the listing's title, description and images.

How to do it

  1. Upload a shaped, front-on shotFill the bag with tissue so it holds its shape, polish the hardware and arrange the handles the same way on every bag. Shoot front-on from the middle of the bag's height.
  2. Remove the background and check the handlesThe tool starts on white. Zoom in on the space inside top handles, strap loops and chain straps: those gaps must show white, not the old background.
  3. Download and add the detail shotsDownload HD or full size as a JPG for the main image. Keep the interior, hardware, base and flaw close-ups as real photos; they show the bag as it is.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Hide the stuffingTissue that peeks out of the opening or a pocket reads as part of the bag. Tuck it below the edge before you shoot.
  • Hardware reflects like jewelryPolished clasps, zips and chains mirror the room. Use soft light and a white card nearby so they show clean highlights instead of your window.
  • Show corners and the baseWear shows first on corners, the base and handle edges. eBay asks you not to hide any defects, so photograph them close and sharp.
  • Picture only what's includedeBay's handbag Authenticity Guarantee page says everything pictured is assumed to be included. Leave the dust bag, box, strap or card out of photos if they aren't part of the sale.
  • Keep labels and stamps readableClose-ups of logos, heat stamps, interior labels and lining help buyers and authenticators. Shoot them straight on and in focus, and never edit them.

Questions

What photos do I need to sell a designer handbag?

Front, back, both sides, base, top and handles, the interior, hardware and labels up close, and every flaw. eBay allows up to 24 images, and its luxury bags guide asks for every angle and the interior.

Does eBay authenticate handbags?

Yes. Bags from eligible brands listed in eBay's women's and men's bag and accessory categories that sell for $500 or more go through the Authenticity Guarantee. Authenticators confirm the bag matches the listing's title, description and images.

What background is best for handbag photos?

White for the main image: it suits Amazon's pure white rule, and eBay calls plain white a safe choice. Use the rest of the gallery for real detail shots.

Should I include the dust bag in photos?

Only if it comes with the bag. Everything pictured is assumed to be included, and eBay's Authenticity Guarantee asks sellers not to include seller-branded dust bags.

Can I edit out scuffs on a used bag?

No. eBay asks sellers not to hide defects and to describe every imperfection on pre-owned bags, and Etsy bans edits that hide flaws. Remove the background, not the wear.
