Remove the background for Depop listing photos
Depop lets you add up to four photos and one video when listing in the app, or up to eight photos on depop.com. Every photo must be your own: listings that use stock images are removed. A clean cover photo of the whole item, followed by honest photos of the label, tags and any faults, covers what Depop asks sellers to show.

How to do it
- Upload your own photoTake the photo yourself: a flat lay, a hanger shot or the item worn. Depop doesn't allow photos taken from elsewhere, so start from your own picture, not a brand's product shot.
- Pick a plain backdropThe tool starts transparent. Choose a solid colour that suits your shop, and use the same one on every cover photo so your shop looks consistent. Check the edges of fluffy or sheer fabric before you download.
- Download and set it as the coverDownload as a JPEG on your colour. Make it the first photo, then add the label, tags, close-ups and faults as regular photos so buyers see the real item.
Tips and common mistakes
- Edit for clarity, not to hide anythingRemoving a messy bedroom behind a jacket is fine. Removing a stain or a pull is not: Depop can refund a buyer when an item differs greatly from its photos, including wrong colours or flaws that weren't shown.
- Use the web for bigger dropsListing on depop.com gives you eight photo slots, bulk listing and inline edits. Drafts sync between the app and the web, so you can shoot on your phone and finish on a laptop.
- Every angle counts for searchDepop names photos showing the item from every angle, with details and flaws, as one of the things that help listings in search, alongside a fair price and a clear description.
- Keep a cutout of each itemSave the transparent PNG too. If you change your shop's backdrop colour later, you can redo the cover photos without reshooting.
Questions
How many photos can I add to a Depop listing?
Up to four photos and one video in the app, or up to eight photos when listing on depop.com.
Can I use stock photos on Depop?
No. Depop asks that all photos are your own, and listings that use stock images are removed. For dropshipped items, stock, customer and supplier photos are all not allowed.
Is it OK to remove the background from my Depop photos?
Yes, as long as it is still your own photo and it shows the item accurately. Keep at least one unedited photo of the label, tags and any faults.
What should the first Depop photo show?
The whole item, clearly. On the web you can choose which photo is the cover image and crop it in the draft.
What helps a Depop listing show up in search?
Depop lists a good price, a clear and accurate description with measurements and wear, and photos from every angle that highlight details and flaws.
