How to do it

  1. Upload a sharp photoUse the original file from your camera or phone (JPG, PNG or WebP up to 25 MB). Walmart asks for images that are in focus and professionally lit, and says not to resize small images to fill space, so start with a photo that is already 1500 px or more on each side once cropped.
  2. Keep the white backgroundThe tool starts on #ffffff, which is RGB 255, 255, 255. Check fine edges such as cords, handles and clear plastic for leftover background, since grey halos show up against seamless white.
  3. Crop square and save under 5 MBDownload HD or full size as a JPEG. Crop to a 1:1 square with the item as close to the edges as possible, aim for 2200 x 2200 px, and check the file is 5 MB or less before you upload it.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Name files by GTINWalmart recommends the 14-digit GTIN in the image file name. Doing it at export time saves matching files to items later.
  • Leave out what isn't in the boxThe main image can't show accessories that aren't included. Show extras in your secondary images, and keep props to a minimum there too.
  • No condition words on the imageWalmart doesn't allow condition descriptions such as grade A, scratched or refurbished on images. Put condition in the listing text, and photograph pre-owned items as they really are.
  • Large items can stay in contextWalmart allows larger items to be shown in an expected environment. For a sofa or a grill, a clean room or patio shot can work better than a cutout.
  • Use your own photosStock photos aren't allowed. Images must show the actual product, match the product name and key attributes, and not repeat on the same item page.
